sunsets & jadedness
Day 2 of having a blog and I had to resist the urge to tell people about this on SEVERAL occasions. Sigh. Also, I transferred over my first two posts from my original blog because the domain was fickle.lykhari.com which didn't speak to me (though it does aptly describe my horrible decision-making skills).
Going down the rabbit hole of untranslatable words led me to ultimately decide on livsnjutare -- a Swedish word used to describe a person who loves life and embraces every opportunity in order to life it to the fullest -- because it immediately resonated with me and the season of life I'm currently in, where I'm learning gratitude for my silly little life and learning to make the most of wherever I am placed because life is too short for misery and self-pity.
Long ahh digression and unnecessary rambling aside, I celebrated XM's belated birthday at the beach today (with the rest of the tweakies and her other friends).
It was cloudy and forecasted to rain, and J lamented that it was such a pity that the sunset wasn't clear due to all the grey clouds. I agreed, but in my heart I said a little prayer for a beautiful sunset regardless.
And, literally, 5 minutes later, the golden-pink glow of the sun lit up the sides of a cumulonimbus cloud in such a magical, heaven-like, and dramatic way, and hues of salmon pink began to appear everywhere and in increasing intensity, imbuing and weaving themselves into the cotton candy-like threads of misty and dreamy clouds.
I can't even describe how excited I was seeing this sight and I was spamming photos in an instant LOL.
I often worry about jadedness and wonder whether the appreciation I have for nature and the mountains would be different if I had grown up in close proximity to these natural wonders. Something like the lack of awe I have in relation to tourists who visit Singapore. I worry if the law of diminishing marginal returns applies to my appreciation for God's creation -- will my Oh my mamas decrease in excitement with every new place I visit and every new sight I see?? My greatest fear is reaching a point where I no longer stand mesmerised before God's creations.
However, years of gaping at sunsets and rushing to take photos of the same sky from the same window has shown me that, perhaps God has hard-programmed me with an unending sense of wonder and appreciation for all the beauty the world has to offer.
If I haven't gotten tired of seeing Singapore sunsets, I don't have to worry about not being able to see the beauty in seeing other sunsets, other mountains, other valleys, other forests, other views, because I will, without fail, react the same way (though in varying intensities ig) to each one -- first, a widening of the eyes; second, a grab for the phone; third, a quick snapping of photos with a constant rotating of the phone for good measure (and some frustration that the camera isn't doing justice to what I'm seeing with my bare naked eyes); fourth, an endless gawking and exclamation of "Oh my MAMA!".
(I just realised I can't publish photos to lykhari. That is so depressing ðŸ˜)
